Our expertise cover civil, structural, metallurgical, mechanical, piping, electrical and automation engineering.
Wynand Moolman
B.Eng (Metallurgy), GDE (Pyrometallurgy), PPM (Practical project management)
Wynand, as a director of Metix (Pty) Ltd and various Metix subsidiaries, is experienced in the operation, management, design, construction and commissioning of ferrous and non-ferrous plants. His passion for project management and safety, from his early days at Samancor, has been the cornerstone of Metix’s evolution into executing bigger turnkey projects, promoting the continuous delivery of first class projects worldwide.
Leon Lombard
B.Com (Accounting), MBA, MDP
Leon graduated from the University of Potchefstroom and completed a MBA through the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburg, Scotland. He has extensive experience in the natural resources industry, having worked in the smelting and mining sectors, including Samancor Chrome (BHP-Billiton), as well as other mining operations in gold, uranium, copper and iron. He has established financial functions for new start-up operations in several countries including South Africa, Angola, Malawi and the DRC. As CFO he was involved in strategic re-organisations and new mining projects. He led several ERP implementations including SAP.
Marco van Niekerk
B.Eng (Mechanical)
Marco completed his studies at the University of Stellenbosch where after he started his career at Bateman, specialising in multi-disciplinary engineering management and engineering deliverable management. He has been involved in the value chain of project engineering and heads up the company’s drive for Building Information Management (BIM) and Design for Construction (D4C) practices. He brings vast experience in the construction and commissioning of plants to Metix. Marco has been leading the Metix project engineering team as SMP Manager since 2012.
Bradley Nqumba
B.Tech (Electrical), BSc (Hons), MSc (Hons), MBA, PrTech Eng
Bradley is an electrical engineer with more than 21 years experience in electrical, control and instrumentation engineering, both the utility and pyrometallurgy industries, and has been part of the SMS group since 2008. He has been responsible for the EC&I design and implementation of numerous installations in the world, with key input to design, project management, execution and commissioning. Bradley plays a key role in synchronising Metix’s technical competence with all other disciplines to ensure successful project roll-out.
Gawie Lötter
BSc.Eng (Mechanical), APM (Advanced Project Management)
After graduating from the University of Pretoria, Gawie started his career at Arcelor Mittal where he gained experience in the operation and maintenance of various plants in the iron and steel industry. He was the plant manager of the first Corex plant at Pretoria Works and involved in the project management, construction, commissioning, and operation of various Corex plants around the world including Korea, India and China. His experience also includes the operation of a 5 Mtpa iron plant consisting of a blast furnace, DRI plants and Corex plants in Essar, India. He joined Metix in 2016 as Project Manager and has lead various projects at Metix. He has been managing the technology equipment department since 2021.
Gerhard Terblanche
B. Eng (Chemical)
Gerhard graduated from the North-West University and started his career at Xstrata Alloys (now Glencore) in 2001 as an Engineer-in-Training. Through-out his career, he gained invaluable experience in all aspects of the smelting industry, having worked for Glencore, ASA Metals and Samancor Chrome. He has extensive knowledge and thorough understanding of ferrochrome production and related activities, ore beneficiation, wide pre-reduction and pre-oxidation process understanding, seasoned AC- and DC furnace operations professional and competent in all aspects of smelter management. He joined Metix in 2023 as the Metallurgical Product Manager and has since been appointed to lead the business development department within Metix.
