Supply of a Copper Matte Settling Electric Furnace
Metix (part of SMS group) is delighted to announce our selection for the Engineering, Procurement & Supply (EPS) of a rectangular Copper Matte Settling Electric Furnace (MSEF) and auxiliary equipment for a Customer who is a global leading copper producer. The project includes the replacement and upgrade of an existing MSEF, showcasing Metix’ state-of-the-art OEM equipment. The design is grounded in Metix’ Design for Construction (D4C) approach, aimed to reduce construction time and installation risk. On-site construction is set to commence in quarter 2 of 2025, with commissioning scheduled in the same quarter. Once commissioned, the project will enable our Customer to supply cast copper products to the market. This project reaffirms Metix’ position as a leading furnace equipment supplier to the global non-ferrous market.

thyssenkrupp Steel awards a contract to SMS group for a direct reduction plant
Metix (SMS Group) would like to thank thyssenkrupp Steel for the recent award to SMS group GmbH group for the engineering, delivery and construction (EPC) of the worlds first hydrogen-powered direct reduction plant at their Duisburg location. This marks the start to one of the biggest industrial decarbonization projects worldwide, which will avoid more than 3.5 million metric tons of CO2 per year in the future. The plant will have a capacity of 2.5 million metric tons of directly reduced iron (DRI), and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
As a first of its kind, this project will pioneer the way forward to a more responsible and greener future.

Successful hot commissioning of ferroniobium dephosphorization furnace
Metix, SMS Group is proud and pleased to announce the successful hot commissioning of ferroniobium dephosphorization furnace 3 at CBMM’s industrial complex, located in Araxá Brazil. The 1st slag tap occurred on July 2021, with furnace performance monitoring and testing now underway. This marks the 3rd successful supply and commissioning of a ferroniobium dephosphorization furnace to CBMM by the SMS group. We wish to take this opportunity to congratulate the CBMM team on the success of their project, achieved through dedication and a high level of professionalism.
